John Elwyn 'Tex' Holleyman, 89 MILFORD - John Elwyn 'Tex' Holleyman, formerly of Monroe, La., departed his earthly home to be with our Lord on April 7, 2010. Mr. Holleyman was born December 1, 1920 in Carbon, Texas. John grew up in Texas. From an early age he loved horses. As a young man he became a real cowboy living and working on a large ranch. Herding, branding and driving cattle or riding and roping horses were daily chores for this cowpoke. John served his country honorably from September 1942 - 1944. Except for 11 months, his service was spent on foreign soil. He was Army Airborne, a medical corpsman and qualified as a Carbine Sharpshooter. John received the Bronze Star for battles in Normandy, Ardonnes and Rhineland. He received a Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal and many additional service ribbons for the short but hard time he served in Central Europe and Northern France. He returned to his beloved Texas in 1944 where he opened a small restaurant for a brief period. Many jobs were held over the years as John continued on his life's journey. The one constant was his love of the Lord. A devout Christian, John spent his life spreading the Word and seeking to help bring others to our Savior. On January 13, 1963, the next chapter began when he wed Edith Brownell Holman, his constant companion for the next 47 years. The Lord inspired John to invent an air injection motor that later grew into "JJJ Air Injection Systems". Although his motor has yet to be sold, he enjoyed the time he spent working and traveling to explain the workings of his masterpiece. John and Edith moved to Delaware seven years ago. John was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Milford. Troy and Jennifer Lavallee and family were John's friends as well as his Pastor. He is preceded in death by his parents Perry and Lillie Holleyman; four sisters Lily Bell Chambless, Lola B. Porter, Edwina Ward and Lydia Redell Holleyman. John is survived by his wife Edith, his son Johnny Holman and his wife Joyce, of Milford; a daughter Mary Primm and her husband William, of Texas; six grandchildren Dawn Godwin and Jennifer Holman, of Milford, Spring Browder, April Arnold and Felina Wyatt of LA, and J.R. Shook, of Texas; 14 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. Friends may call from 1 - 2 pm on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE where funeral services officiated by Pastor Troy Lavallee will be held at 2 p.m. Services in Louisiana will be held on Friday, April 16 at Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe, LA with interment in Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, LA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the New Life Baptist Church, 945 South DuPont Highway, Milford, DE 19963.
