DOVER - John C. Hewish, Sr. passed away September 23, 2021, at home.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 2, 1948, to the late Edward and Elizabeth Hewish. John was a man that truly lived by the Golden Rule.
For approximately 20 years John lived in New Jersey and worked in Philadelphia with his father in the family courier business. He came to Delaware in 1987 to raise chickens and raise chickens he did. For 18 years he worked on the farm he started from scratch in Greenwood, earning awards for growing chickens, including "Grower of the Year".
John loved all sports especially playing and watching golf. He was a member of Shawnee Country Club (now Rookery North) for a number of years. John was also a member of The Elks Lodge #2401 in Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward J. Hewish, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary L. Hewish (Jordan); his daughter, Ashley S. Hewish, her partner Andrew Marshall; his son, John C. Hewish, II; his grandchildren, Cameron, Jace, Jordan and Andrew; sisters, Bonnie Hartman and her husband, Ray, Linda Endres and her finance, Dave, Joyce Grasso and her partner, Ken; sister-in-laws, Toni Hewish, Annette Scholl, Eileen Morris and her husband, Tom; Jennie Ann Perrottet and her husband, Rob; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all.
Services were private.
In his honor donations may be made to Delaware Tech CC, P.O. Box 897, Dover, DE 19903. In the memo please put Fund #645 in Honor of John Hewish or a charity of your choice.
