Belcher, 78 Seaford - Janice Gregory Belcher passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Warren L. Belcher. Jan was the daughter of the late James R. Gregory, Jr. and Julia Crews Gregory of Richmond, Va. She is survived by her four children, Dr. Warren Gregory Belcher (Greg) of Salisbury, Md., Vance Morris Belcher (Van) of Phoenix, Ariz., Julie Belcher Warrington and her husband, Gray Bennett Warrington of Magnolia, Del. and Dwight Adkins Belcher (Dyke) and his wife, Tiffney Ayres Belcher of Seaford. Also surviving Jan is her brother, James R. Gregory III and his wife, Kathy of Urbana, Va.; five grandchildren, Amanda Crews Warrington LaPenta and her husband, Dante LaPenta of Wilmington Del., Morgan Page Warrington of Reston, Va., Rebecca Gray Warrington of South Orange, N.J., Robert Vance Belcher (attending Embry-Riddle University), Sidney Alicia Kilgo of Seaford (attending University of Kentucky); and one great-grandson, Carmine Bennett LaPenta. Born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Jan attended Thomas Jefferson High School graduating with the class of '54. Jan spent three years studying Psychology at Mary Baldwin College in Stauton, Virginia until she and Warren, her high school sweetheart, got married on June 15, 1957. They moved to a small apartment in Blacksburg, Virginia for Warren to finish his degree at Virginia Tech (VPI) in Engineering. Jan supported Warren during this time working as a receptionist at a Law firm in Blacksburg. They settled in Richmond after Warren accepted a job with DuPont. They were later transferred to Wilmington, Del. and then to Seaford where they made their permanent home. Jan loved raising their four children and actively participated in their activities. She later became an avid soccer enthusiast as she traveled to her granddaughters' games from elementary school throughout their college careers. Jan enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, auctions, gardening, and decorating her beautiful home. She was a member of the Nanticoke Watershed and the Sierra Club. She loved her family and friends. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, August 16, 2014 between 2 and 3 o'clock with a Memorial Service to follow at 3 o'clock at Cranston Funeral Home at 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, Delaware. The family wishes donations in Jan's name be made to Delaware Hospice Inc, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or at www.delawarehospice.org
