Janet Pease Moore

TARBORO, N.C. - Janet Pease Moore died on Aug. 23, in Tarboro, N.C., from complications of brain cancer. In 1944, Janet was born in Hanover, N.H., where her mother spent her childhood and where her parents met while her father was a student at Dartmouth College. She spent her childhood in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and attended the Sewickley Academy. She graduated from the Baldwin School, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 1962, and from Mount Holyoke College in 1966. First based in Washington, D.C., and later in Atlanta, Janet spent her career serving in the Department of Labor as a policy analyst. Her passion and expertise was in the area of making quality education widely available. While living in Washington, Janet met and married Wesley Moore, who was working for the Small Business Administration. Janet and Wes have loved traveling, with Maine and New Hampshire, Italy, and Spain among their favorite destinations. Janet became a serious amateur photographer, winning awards for her work, as well as inspiring others to display their own work. After retiring to Charlottesville, Va., Janet and Wes were active members of the Charlottesville Camera Club. Janet is survived by her husband, Wes; and her sister, Marcia Pease Lebhar of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as by stepdaughter, Amy Moore Taylor of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and by her nieces and nephew, Sarah Lebhar Hall, Katie Lebhar Black, Dawn Cross Thompson, and Peter Lebhar. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to UVA Emily Couric Cancer Center, PO Box 400807, Charlottesville, VA 22904-4807. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
