MAGNOLIA - James Ray Miller went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Kent General Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1943, in Syracuse, New York to the late Berton Ray Miller and Dorothy Louise Hogarbome-Miller.
Mr. Miller served in the United States Air Force, he then served reserves for many years after, until retiring as Master Sgt in 1991. In 1964, he was a Green Rope in the USAF. He was proprietor of Miller Motors from 1991-2010, where he worked as an Automotive Mechanic for about 25 years, until he retired in 2010. Mr. Miller was an active member of the Southside Baptist Church where he was Deacon, he also sang in many church choirs and helped in summer with Vacation Bible School. He went on 6 mission trips, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Peru. He loved spending time outdoors, his favorite hobbies included gardening, fishing, and camping.
In addition to his parents; Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his brother, Ross A. Miller; then sister, Karen Mudge.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan C.; children, Lorraine M. Miller of Dover, Sharon D. Cordill of Dover, Donald R. Miller, and wife Joanna of Magnolia; brothers, Gene Miller of Crossville, Tenn., Fred Carpenter of Jamestown, Tenn.; sister, Dawn Blount of Adams, N.Y.; grandchildren, Devin, Katelyn, Allison Miller, and Brandon, Rachel, Jamie Reed; great-grandson, Raiden Reed.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
