James Gibson "Jim" Bennette Sr., 75

WORTON, Md. - James Gibson "Jim" Bennette Sr. of Worton died suddenly Monday, July 2, 2007, in Sneads Ferry, N.C. He was 75.

Mr. Bennette was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Covington, Va., son of the late Chester Bruce and Margaret Elizabeth Gibson Bennette.

He graduated from Bladensburg High School and then served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, after which he was honorably discharged. He was employed as a civilian electrician at Andrews Air Force Base until his retirement in 1993.

Mr. Bennette and his wife, Carol, lived in Lanham until moving to Worton in 1999.

He was a life member of Fr. Bradford Council 11248 and a member of Fr. James Lutz Assembly 2702, Knights of Columbus and Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36, all in Chestertown. Prior to moving to the Eastern Shore, he was a member of Mother Seton Council 5301, Knights of Columbus, Seabrook.

Mr. Bennette was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown and a past member of St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Landover Hills.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Daniels Bennette; sons, James G. Bennette Jr. of Worton and Daniel A. Bennette and his wife Tami of Annapolis; and his long-awaited granddaughter, Violet Isabelle Bennette; a brother, Robert B. Bennette of Gibsonville, N.C.; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where a chalice ceremony will be held prior to prayers.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Bladensburg.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Bradford Council 11248 Knights of Columbus, 9058 Fairlee Road, Chestertown, MD 21620; or Chester River Hospital Center Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program, 100 Brown St., Chestertown, MD 21620.
