J. Franklin Wharton, 87

ROCK HALL, Md. - J. Franklin Wharton of Rock Hall died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 87.

Mr. Wharton was born April 6, 1920, in Philadelphia, son of the late Walter and Anna (Yeamans) Wharton.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1941-46 with the U.S. Coast Guard in the North Atlantic.

Living in the Philadelphia area, Mr. Wharton was employed as an electrician in commercial construction through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 98 in Philadelphia for 38 years, retiring in 1982.

In 1983 he and his wife moved to Rock Hall where he enjoyed boating and woodworking.

Mr. Wharton was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Chestertown.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Wharton.

Mr. Wharton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Eves Wharton; two daughters, Donna Tinsley and her husband John of Sciota, Pa., and Dorothy VanDeursen and her husband Richard of Hockessin, Del.; a son, John F. Wharton Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be private in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, Pa.

Arrangements by the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
