HARRINGTON - Ivan P. Yoder, of Harrington, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. He was 84. He was the son of the late Abraham and Ida Bell Yoder. For over 60 years, Mr. Yoder was a harness racing driver and trainer, starting in 1949 and finally retiring December of 2009. Out of 38 years of driving, he had only five accidents. He raced all over the Eastern Shore and won many races. Mr. Yoder was indeed a man of many talents. Besides working with horses, he also was an electrician and carpenter, building many houses. Mr. Yoder had a great sense of humor. He loved to joke and kid with people and tell tales. He never knew a stranger and knew everyone in the Whiteleysburg area. He loved to play his guitar for the family's blue grass and country band, and looked forward to the weekends when he could play his music. Hunting and fishing were also a favorite activity of his. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and they will sorely miss him. Mr. Yoder belonged to the USTA –United States Trotters Assoc., VFW Greensboro Post 7937, and to the Blue Grass Assoc. of Marydel. He is survived by the love of his life, Bernice Laramore of Greensboro, Md.; sons and daughters- in law, Jerry L. and Sharon Yoder of Palm Coast, Fla., and Eddie L. and Lou Ann Yoder of Bridgeville; daughter and son-in law, Velma J. and David Rust of Harrington; brother, Earl Yoder of Harrington; sister, Garnet Spencer of Hartly; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.
