Mrs. Gray was born April 9, 1932 in Georgetown to the late Norman and Ina Bunting. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1949 and worked in the cafeteria for the Indian River School District. Irene was a member of Bethesda UMC and Bethesda UMW.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Dale J. Gray, Sr.; by a great friend of many years, Stewart Quillen; and a great grandson, Joey Waples.
She is survived by her children, Dale J. 'DJ' Gray, Jr., and his companion, Debbie McKrisky and Diane Fleetwood, and her husband, Steve Fleetwood; 6 grandchildren; Gary and Billie Jo Hughes, Cindy and Ronnie West, James Dale 'JD' and Heather Gray, Jenna Oliphant and fiancé Brandon Bailey, Josh Oliphant, and Rebekah Fleetwood; and 2 great-grandchildren, Yessika West and Ava Bailey.
Everyone that knew Irene loved her dearly. She touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways. She could not have been a more genuine Christian, Wife, Mom, Mom Mom, Great-Grandmom, Mother-in-law or Friend. She lived each day to the fullest with love and laughter no matter what her condition. She wouldn't want us to cry over her passing, but to celebrate her wonderful life.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 12 noon in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
