Howard Franklin Tribbett, 83

DENTON - Howard Franklin Tribbett, formerly of Harrington, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in his son's home surrounded by his family. He was 83. He was born on Aug. 2, 1925, in Ridgely, Md., and was the son of the late Harvey Franklin and Bessie Hughes Tribbett. Howard was an avid hunter who loved farming. He served as a hunting guide at Camp Pecometh for several years. He was a member of the Eastern Shore League Baseball Hall of Fame. He was best known by his teammates as "Wheels" for his ability to cover the outfield to retrieve a fly ball. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ingleside. He was also a member of the Cloverleaf Trotter's Association and was a lifetime member and supporter of Future Farmers of America (FFA). Most of his life was spent in Queen Anne's County where he owned and operated a grain, livestock and dairy farm. Later in his life, he owned and operated a swine operation in Berlin. While living in Berlin he became involved in harness racing. He trained racehorses for about 20 years and during that time he owned a horse by the name of "Mr. Bonebreaker", who served him well by breaking a standing world record for ½ mile race at Harrington, Delaware. Howard was preceded in death by his first wife Kathryn (Kitty) Blackiston Tribbett, after 51 years of marriage. He later married Margaret (Peggy) Emory Tribbett in 1996, who passed away in 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Callahan and her husband Sonny of Denton, Henrietta (Tootsie) Deel and her husband Ron of Greensboro; a son, David Tribbett and his wife Terry of Denton; and six grandchildren, Danny Callahan and his wife Kelly, Katie Kiel and her husband Mike, David Tribbett Jr. and his wife Spring, Todd Tribbett and his wife Kristine, Troy Tribbett and his wife Vicki, and Penny Benson and her fiancé Charles Stanicki. Mr. Tribbett is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Services were Thursday Oct. 2, at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home in Greensboro, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of Queen Anne County, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617. Condolences may be made to www.fleegleandhelfenbein.com.
