MILFORD - Herman W. Sharp Jr. of Milford passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in his home surrounded by his family. He was 80.
Mr. Sharp was born on Aug. 25, 1927, in Milford, son of the late Herman W. Sr. and Olivia (Mills) Sharp.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Sharp was employed as a fireman with the Civil Service at the Dover Air Force Base for 25 years, retiring in 1981.
In 1982 he opened Riverside Realty in Milford, which he owned and operated for 14 years before retiring from real estate.
Mr. Sharp was also a driver for several years for Kent-Sussex Industries in Milford.
He enjoyed gardening and offered his fresh produce to nearby residents at his roadside stand in front of his home in the summer months.
Mr. Sharp was a 51-year life member, past chief and past president of Memorial Fire Co. in Slaughter Beach, a member of the Milford Elks Lodge 2401, American Legion Post 3 in Milford, Masonic Temple Lodge No. 9 AF&AM in Milford, Milford Moose Lodge 2316 and a member and past president of the Kent County Board of Realtors.
He was an active member of Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sharp Reed and Grace Sharp Clements.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty F. Sharp; a son, Herman W. "Sonny" Sharp III of Milford; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette S. and Steven H. Billings of Milford; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucy S. and Harold Davis of Milford; three grandchildren, Jennifer Sharp of Fenwick Island, Ashley Billings of Milford and Adrienne Brozefsky and her husband Jesse of Milford; and one great-grandson, Drew Dominic Brozefsky.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford.
Burial with fireman's honors will be held in Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street.
Instead of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford DE 19963; or to Memorial Fire Co,, 359 Bay Ave., Milford, DE 19963.
