Herman Kohland Jr., 83
HARRINGTON - Herman Kohland Jr., of Harrington, passed away from natural causes Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, in his home. He was 83.
Mr. Kohland was born at home, son of the late Herman and Gertrude Kohland.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
When he returned home, he worked for Callis-Thompson, Harrington, retiring after 33 years of service. He worked part time at Arby"s, Harrington, for the last eight years.
Mr. Kohland was a lifetime member of the Harrington Volunteer Fire Department, having served at one point as a fire policeman, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7478 and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline C. Kohland, in 1995.
He is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Jack D. and Cathy Kohland of Frederica; a brother, Ernest Kohland of Harrington; two granddaughters, Amy Blades Saia of Denton, Md., and Jenna R. White of Houston; three great-grandchildren, Landon Saia, Kasyn White and Kiersyn White.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman St., Harrington, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Instead of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or Harrington Volunteer Fire Co., 20 Clark St., Harrington, DE 19952.
