LOS ANGELES (AP) — Freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley will miss No. 12 Southern California’s Big Ten opener at Rutgers on Saturday because of an undisclosed injury. Mosley, a four-star recruit from Santa Margarita Catholic in Rancho Santa Margarita, has been the breakout star of the Trojans’ touted freshman class with 13 receptions for 255 yards and four touchdowns in his first three games. He has consecutive games with 100 yards receiving and scored on a 86-yard punt return in a 49-30 win over Louisiana on Saturday to wrap up the nonconference schedule for USC.
UNDATED (AP) — The big college football game this Saturday is No. 7 LSU at No. 8 Mississippi. On Friday, No. 22 Houston visits No. 13 Texas Tech in the Big 12, and No. 16 SMU faces No. 23 Louisville in the ACC. Most Top 25 teams are heavily favored in their games. AP is picking LSU to win the showdown at Ole Miss.
UNDATED (AP) — The nearly 10-month wait for Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford is almost over. No. 7 LSU at No. 8 Mississippi would be the game of the week under normal circumstances. It's the first top-10 matchup between the teams since 1962. There's been nothing normal about the build-up. It started Nov. 30 when Kiffin left to take the LSU job just as the team he had coached six years was days away from the College Football Playoff. Other Top 25 matchups have No. 22 Houston at No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 16 SMU at No. 23 Louisville.
UNDATED (AP) — Oregon Ducks players held a meeting to air out their concerns after they were upset by Oklahoma State. Quarterback Dante Moore said the player-led meeting was needed to get everyone on the same page going into the rest of the season. Oregon tumbled down the rankings from No. 6 to No. 21 after the upset. The team that was being looked at as a possible national champion in the preseason is now facing tough questions. Oregon wraps up its nonconference slate Friday night when the team hosts lower-division Portland State.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Luke Talich became a Notre Dame fan because the Fighting Irish wore the same blue-and-gold colors as his beloved Cody High School Broncs. He joined the program to challenge himself. Now the 6-foot-4, 222-pound Wyoming native has turned his 1,376-mile football journey into a made-for-Hollywood script. The two-way high school star turned down scholarship offers from three Pac-12 schools, Wyoming and Colorado State so he could become a preferred walk-on with the Irish. He earned a scholarship as a freshman and now, in his fourth college season, finds himself as a starting safety for the nation’s No. 3 team.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana receiver Charlie Becker started last season by fighting three more experienced NFL prospects for playing time. He finished it as one of the most essential cogs in the Hoosiers' improbable 2025 national championship run. Now he’s back to do even more in his first full season as a starter. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound Nashville native has emerged quickly as the new leader in Indiana’s receivers room by becoming the model of efficiency. Becker leads the team with seven receptions and 145 yards but his five TD catches are tied for the most among in the Football Bowl Subdivision. No. 4 Indiana hosts winless Western Kentucky on Saturday.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Legislation to broadly regulate college sports has cleared a first major hurdle in the Senate. The Senate voted Tuesday to consider the bill, a significant step forward as senators from both parties have made the legislation a priority. The bill aims to put guardrails around escalating spending in college sports as the industry struggles to adapt to a new model in which schools can pay players. Major conferences, Senate leadership and President Donald Trump have backed the bipartisan bill. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz of Texas said the bill aims to quell “the chaos we have in college sports.”
UNDATED (AP) — Nebraska and Notre Dame have scheduled a home-and-home series with games in 2032 and 2033 in what will be the first matchups of the tradition-rich programs in more than three decades. Nebraska will host Notre Dame in Lincoln on Oct. 30, 2032, and the Irish will host the Cornhuskers in South Bend on Oct. 29, 2033. Notre Dame ranks fourth in all-time wins with 974 and Nebraska is eighth with 933. The schools have combined for 13 national titles, with the Fighting Irish winning eight and Nebraska five.
