Helen Reece, 91 DOVER - Helen Reece, of Dover, died at home on Friday, April 16, after a lengthy illness with her son and daughter by her side. She was 91. Born in Philadelphia to Nellie and Joseph Hall, Mrs. Reece spent her early years with her parents and grandparents in South Philadelphia. After her mother's death, she later resided with her parents Joseph and Anna Hall and sister and best friend, Carole. She graduated from Media High School in 1936 and married her husband of 56 years, Willet Reece in 1939. Both Mr. and Mrs. Reece were employed by Elwyn Institute; Mr. Reece as Farm Manager, and Mrs. Reece as caregiver of young children as well as vocational trainer for young adults. They later lived in Mountain City, Tenn., where Mr. Reece was born and reared. Mrs. Reece spent the later years of her life in Dover, Del., where she was a member of Church of the Holy Cross. Devoted mother, kind and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, loyal friend to all who were fortunate to know her, Mrs. Reece enjoyed camping, reading, sewing, and especially her dog, Mugs. Mrs. Reece is survived by her son, Joseph Reece and his wife Bobbie of Woodlyn, Pa.; her daughter, Patricia Darlington of Dover; her grandchildren, Matthew Darlington and wife Antoinette of Great Falls, Mont., Kelly Reilly and husband Mark of Bear, Joseph Reece, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Woodlyn, Pa.; great-grandchildren include Amber Reilly, Jared, Helen, and Theresa Darlington, and Mollie, Marissa, and Mason Reece. Mrs. Reece remained close to her sister, Carole Willis and her husband George, niece, Jennifer Hoffert and husband John, and children, Gretchen and Jack, throughout her life. Her love for the nieces and nephews she shared with her husband, Willet, never diminished. They include Fred and Sue Reece, Doug and Ann, Reece, Jack Greer, Carole and Joe Winebarger, Linda and Darrell Holly, Norman and Sheila Thomas, and Charles and Pam McMahon. Wherever she was, there was laughter, ice cream, and sunshine! Now, at her death, the stars will shine a little brighter and the world will be a little kinder because she lived. May her family take comfort in knowing that Helen and Willet are reunited and will once again be able to continue the journey that began 70 years ago hand in hand. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery in Glenn Mills, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Day Break Adult Daycare, Modern Maturity Center, Dover, DE 19904.
