Helen E. Lynch, 95
ROXANA - Helen E. Lynch of Roxana passed away at her home of 75 years on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, of natural causes. She was 95.
Helen was born in St. Martin"s Neck, Md., on Sept. 16, 1911. She moved to Roxana in 1932 with her husband, Roland V. Lynch Sr., who passed away in 1990.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 12 of Frankford since 1945. Helen was a charter member since 1960 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Roxana Volunteer Fire Co. She spent many years assisting the ladies and men in preparation for their famous fried chicken dinners.
Helen was a long time member of the Roxana Methodist Church. Helen served 16 years as the superintendent of the youth division of the church.
She was an avid baseball fan, the Baltimore Orioles were her favorite team. She watched them religiously, even up to her final days. Cal Ripken Jr. was one of her favorite players and most recently Miguel Tejada was her favorite.
Helen rode many miles and walked thousands of steps as a loyal follower of her grandson Adam, missing a handful of games, which began when he was 9 at the Lower Sussex Little League. Her steps followed him from there through Big League, high school, college and the semi-pro league in Salisbury, Md. Covering a span of 18 years, she was the unofficial scorekeeper for some of those teams, and on occasion corrected the official keeper of the book.
Miss Helen, as she was so fondly referred to, will be missed by all. She touched lives of many throughout her years as a beloved mother, grandmother and a friend to many too numerous to mention.
Along with her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Gerald.
She is survived by her children, Roland Jr. of Gumboro, Norman and his wife Marygrace of Charlotte Hall, Md., Shirley Collins and her husband George of Gumboro, Diana Huntington of Roxana, and Barry Lynch of Roxana; nine grandchildren, Michael Lynch of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sheryl Huffman and her husband David of Old Hickory, Tenn., Norman Lynch Jr. and his wife Tracey, and Beth Dawson and her husband Kenny, all of Charlotte Hall, Mary Frances Yanchulis and her husband Jon of King George, Va., Alan Lynch and his wife Lera of Ocean City, Md., Gail Snyder and her husband Ted Jr. of Georgetown, Adam Lynch of Wilmington, Autumn Lynch of Fort Meyers, Fla. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsey, Lyndsay, David Jr., Jonathan and Natalie Huffman, Aspen and Connor Lynch, Julianna, Sarah and Emma Dawson, Bryan, Megan and Luren Yanchulis, Heather Rose and her husband Joseph, including their son Joseph Jr., which is the great-great-grandson of Mrs. Lynch; a step-great-granddaughter, Tara Snyder and son Hunter; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945, where friends may call on Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. and again Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Roxana Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Roxana Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, 35943 Zion Church Road, Frankford, DE 19945; or Roxana Methodist Church, 35901 Zion Church, Frankford, DE 19945.
