Haydn Daniel Leathery, 76

FELTON - Haydn Daniel Leathery, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 76. He was born in York, Pa., to the late Harry R. Leathery and Anna B. Toomey. Haydn served his country proudly in the U.S. Army for 22 years. His service to his country took him to places around the world. One special place was Frankfurt, Germany, where he met and fell in love with his wife Anna. They would have celebrated 51 years of marriage in April. Upon his retirement from the Army, they settled down in Felton. Haydn will be remembered for his passion for helping others. His wife Anna will miss their shopping adventures as they look for items for family, friends, and casual acquaintances. His twin sister, Nancy fondly remembers that if she told Haydn something that she liked, he would do anything to get it for her. Both his wife and sister talk about how much he loved birds, especially while feeding his favorite variety-hummingbirds. Haydn also enjoyed watching all types of sports. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Matilda Freere, Esther Biehn, Pauline Sheffer, and Bernadette Little; and brothers, Dale and Wilbert Leathery. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Anna Leathery of Felton; twin sister, Nancy E. Williams of Camphill, Pa.; nieces, Diana Shade, and Debbie Steller; nephew, Fritz Johnson; and his extended family at ILC of Frederica. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Haydn's memory to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
