Harry L. Melnick

MAGNOLIA - Harry L. Melnick passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Melnick was born Apr. 5, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Walter J. Melnick and Hannah Lloyd Melnick.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years as Msgt. After his military career he worked for Playtex for 28 years as a master mechanic retiring in 2000. He enjoyed western movies, country music, tinkering on everything, dancing, watching the Eagles and Phillies but especially spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Melnick was a life member of the Walter L. Fox Post #2 American Legion and the Air Force Sgt. Association. He also had a black belt in Judo.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 47 years, Judith Goodman Melnick; and his sister, Gertrude Green.
He is survived by his children, Colleen Arkell (Steve) of Viola, Scott Melnick, Sr. (Debbie) of Dover, Wendy Beck (fiancé, Floyd Kromka) of Camden, Harry Melnick, Jr. (Stephanie Durham) of Dover, Michael Melnick of Magnolia, Kelly Sampson (David Young) who took care of her father; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Cook of Dover; sisters, Artney Fuss of Bristol, Pa. and Barbara Ross of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Darlene Busch of Magnolia; grandchildren, Scotty Melnick, Jr. (fiancée, Kaitlyn Barkley), David Lee Melnick, Steven Melnick, SA Quinto Melnick, Andrew Cook, Christa Smith (Ryan), Joe Beck, Jr. (fiancée, Krystal Glass), William Stulir, Makayla Melnick, Alexandria Sampson, and Charles Young; great grandchildren, Sophia and Lucas Frazier, Alexis, Natalie, Tyler and Dominic Smith, Alayna Lee and another great granddaughter on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and his devoted dog, Diamond.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association National Office, 222 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 1500, Chicago, Illinois 60606.
