Harry C. May, III of Felton, DE formerly of Milton and Dover, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 12, 2022.
Harry was born in Ellsworth, KS on April 19, 1949 son of the late Roy Earl May and the late Creta Mae (Harris) May. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 until 1988 retiring with a rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career he had nine tours overseas. He was deployed to Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Zaire Africa, Saudi Arabia and Beirut Lebanon to name a few.
Following his retirement from the Army, Harry worked as a correctional officer for the state of Delaware retiring as a Sergeant after 15 years of service in 2007. Harry loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid reader especially on military history. He will also be remembered for his great stories and sense of humor.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy May. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara J. (Carroll) May; three children, Jennifer White and her husband, Keith of Milton, DE, Tracy Sipple and her husband, Jason of Ft. Hood, TX, Harry D. May and his wife, Jessica of Felton, DE; and a brother, Ronnie Varnell of California. Harry is also survived by ten grandchildren, Zander Sipple, Arianna Snead, Zayla Sipple, Breanna Sipple, Brooklyn Sipple, Tucker May, Brinley Sipple, Lila May, Brayden Sipple and Nathan White; and his canine companion, Buddy.
A visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Harry's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
