Harold Andrew Newcomb

DOVER - Harold Andrew Newcomb "Doc" passed away Friday, Jul. 7, 2017, at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Newcomb was born May 28, 1944 in Lewes to the late Harold Washington Newcomb and Margaret Polite Newcomb. He grew up in Lewes, graduating from Lewes High School in 1962 and enlisted in the Navy at 18.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a hospital corpsman (medic)/ receiving certifications as an EMT/Paramedic for four years and then in the reserves. Mr. Newcomb was a customs and Border Protection Officer for Homeland Security at the Dover Air force Base, retiring in 2010. After the military, he went to Central Bible College and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Theology and later received his Masters of Divinity in Counseling, and worked for many Assembly of God Churches serving as Pastor, and a Youth and Education Director for 20 years. He was a Chaplin and crisis counselor as well as a Chaplin for the Fire Chiefs Association for the State of Delaware. Mr. Newcomb enjoyed leather work as well as outdoor activities.
Mr. Newcomb is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ethel Jane (Spangenberg) Newcomb of Dover; children, Jerry Ray Newcomb of Slaughter Beach, Jay Russ Newcomb and Jenny Renee Dittmar (Zachary) all of Dover; brother, Patrick A. Newcomb of Lincoln; sister, Judy Lee (Keith) of Harbeson; grandchildren, Naomi, Rachel and Cole and great-granddaughter, Emily.
Memorial service will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, Jul. 13, 2017, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the DVFA Foundation, PO Box 1849, Dover, DE 19903.
