Hall Barton Torbert Sr., 75 HARRINGTON - Hall Barton Torbert Sr., 75, of Harrington, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mr. Torbert was born in Hickman, son of the late Lawrence and Blanche Banks (Butler) Torbert. He worked as a farmer for years before going to work as a mason with Emil Gallo. In 1978, Mr. Torbert began working as a custodian for the Lake Forest School District, retiring in 1998 after 20 years. He was a member of the Burrsville Ruritan Club, where he played first base on the club's baseball team years ago. He was also a member of the Dairy Herd Association. He enjoyed raising ponies and loved to refinish furniture. Both he and his wife served as 4-H leaders in the 1960s. He was preceded in death by a son, Hall Barton Torbert Jr., in 1999; and a brother, Allen Torbert. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Catherine Torbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Hope and Preston Minner of Houston; two grandchildren, Tawnya Squier and Daryl Minner and his wife Amy, all of Harrington; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Squier, Gracie Minner and Elsie Minner; a brother, William Torbert, of Denton, Md.; and a sister, Audrey Kreigh of Maryland. Memorial services were Wednesday at McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
