Capt. Gloria J. Green, 58
DOVER - Capt. Gloria J. Green of Dover passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in her home. She was 58.
Mrs. Green was born Feb. 16, 1948, daughter of the late Anna Farrish and Robert Barkley Sr.
She attended school in the Dover and Smyrna area.
Mrs. Green was married to Patterson Green in the late 1960s. During her marriage she and her family traveled to many places in the world.
She started work at the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna in 1978, where she worked hard and became a captain. She was a faithful worker until her health failed her and caused her to retire in 2004.
Mrs. Green was a member of Pride of Dover Lodge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Barkley and Adriann Barkley; a brother, Tyrone Barkley; a granddaughter, Princess Green; and her grandmother, Mable Bibbins.
She is survived by two daughters, Melinda Green of New York and Yolanda Green of Dover; three sisters, Tysonia Brinkley, Jackie Harris and Alvara Caldwell, all of North Carolina; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and Carolyn Davis and Robert and Rochelle Barkley, all of Delaware, and Gary Barkley and Darryl Barkley, both of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 nieces; eight nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where there will be a special service by the Delaware State Corrections Honor Guard.
