TOWNSEND - George V. Schrader Jr. of Townsend, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark, after a short illness. He was 69.
Mr. Schrader was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Elkton, Md.
After serving in the Marine Corps, he went into farming and later joined IBEW Local 126, Collegeville, Pa., retiring after 20 years of service. He then went back to his love of farming. He loved working the land and watching crops grow. He got his most enjoyment from working the fields, planting a large garden and giving the food to the people who needed it the most. He also enjoyed working on his farm equipment, reading farming newspapers and books and listening to country music.
Mr. Schrader was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge 1295 since 1970.
He was preceded in death by his father, George V. Schrader Sr..
He is survived by his wife Anna (Abrams) Schrader; his mother, Mary E. Schrader of Newark; four sons, Kenneth Schrader and his companion, Denise Speanburg, of Dover, George Schrader III and his wife, Diane of New Castle, Allen Schrader, of Clayton, and Harold Schrader and his wife Carole, of Clayton; a daughter, Gail Swieder and her husband, Donald, of Clayton; a brother, William Schrader and his wife, Janis of New London, Pa.; his sister, Betty of Newark; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and a very special friend who he considered a son, Bruce Honaker of Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, U.S. 13, New Castle, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
