WYOMING - George Marvel Pippin, Sr., 94, of Wyoming, died peacefully in his home with his wife, Dorothy, and family at his side. Son of George W. and Sarah Helen (Marvel) Pippin, George was born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 17, 1921 during the Great Depression, an experience that shaped his entire life. He was educated at A.I. DuPont Industrial School in Wilmington, where he mastered the craft skills of carpentry/cabinetry that would eventually provide for his family throughout his life. He married Dorothy Rosa West on October 5, 1943. Before being deployed to Europe, they were expecting their first child. George was a proud member of the U.S. Army serving with General George Patton's, 56th Armored Engineers Battalion, 11th Armored Division, 3rd Army, including Battle of the Bulge. As the war was ending, his unit liberated the Mauthausen Jewish Concentration Camps, something that he quietly carried as a reminder of the horrific prejudices of mankind. When he returned from WWII to his wife and son, he with his late brother James W. Pippin, Sr. partnered to develop Pippin Brothers Farm in Wyoming which included dairy and crops. By 1960, he expanded his interest to construction from which he retired. His age allowed him a long retirement, which was spent boating, fishing, crabbing and clamming at their summer home in Pot Nets. George is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Dorothy Pippin; three sons, George M. Pippin, Jr. (Sally), John Pippin (Carol), Larrimore Pippin (Mary); six grandchildren, Chris Pippin (Gretchen), Jeff Pippin (Amanda), Lisa Aurand (Jack), Kara Edwards (Bill), Justin Pippin, William Pippin (Kimberly); and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Pippin, Rylee Pippin, Asher Pippin, Alex Way, Kailyn Pippin and Kelden Pippin; and his faithful Jack Russell, Maggie. Friends may gather from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming of which he helped to renovate in 1974. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial with honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
