DOVER - George L. Brown of Dover died Monday, April 9, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark, from complications due to a stroke. He was 71.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Goldsboro, Md., son of the late William and Agatha (Downes) Brown.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, retiring after 20 years with a rank of staff sergeant.

After his military retirement, Mr. Brown worked as a licensed plumber for Vernon Pike Co., Camden, and later for Bayhealth, Dover. He retired at age 60 because of failing eyesight.

His favorite pastime became his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Brown and James Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gerda (Schnucker) Brown; a daughter, Manuela I. Twaits of Dover; a son, George B. Brown of Dover; two brothers, Courtland Brown of Centreville, Md., and Edward Brown of Maryland; three sisters, Helen Clough of Dover, Doris Colby of New Castle, and Ruth Wright of Woodside; and three grandchildren, Derek Wilson, Corey Wilson and Samantha LeMieux, all of Dover.

Burial with military honors will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriot's Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his memory to Associated Services for the Blind, Attn: Development Office, 919 Walnut St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.
