George J. Barilla, 81

DOVER - George J. Barilla, of Dover, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Kent General Hospital. He was 81. Mr. Barilla was born April 21, 1928, in Sicily, Italy. He served in the United States Navy and United States Air Force. Mr. Barilla was in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He served in the United States Air Force for 26 years as an engine mechanic. Mr. Barilla retired as MSgt. He worked at JC Penny's Auto Department. He was partner in Guns N Goodies, Delaware State University, where he ran the grounds department. Mr. Barilla was a member of the DelRods Club, Southern Delaware Street Rods Association for 16 years. He was an inspector for the National Street Rod Association. Mr. Barilla was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Sharon Trice Barilla of Dover; his son, Anthony Barilla and his fiancé Gail Benton of Dover; his daughter, Lisa Clark of St. Louis, Mo.; stepchildren, Danielle Corbin and her husband Mike of Dover, Terrie Saylor and her husband Zeke and Michelle Edmonds and her husband Adam, all of Hazzard, Ky., and Sheree Bell of Dover; grandchildren, Matthew Clark and his wife Cindy, Randi, Aaron, and Nathan Barilla and his fiancé Kryssy; three great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Brandy, Bobbi and Rose Benton, Myranda, Mikhayla, and Montgomery Saylor, AJ Edmonds and Zachary Bell. A visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 18, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904 to help defray funeral costs. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
