FELTON - George Cain, of Felton, passed away at home, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. He was 68. Mr. Cain was born March 7, 1943, in Blantyre, Scotland, the son of the late James and Margaret Cain. He immigrated to this country from Scotland 45 years ago. He worked as a Laboratory Technician for the DuPont Company. Prior to that, he worked for Avison, Stauffer, Diamond Shamrock, and Occidental Chemical. Prior to his death, he worked for Eseco in Camden. Mr. Cain was a member of Saint Bernadette Church in Harrington. He was an Honorary Lifetime Member of Townsend Fire Company and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and he also volunteered at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, and the Veterans Home in Milford. Mr. Cain was also an avid blood donor for the Blood Bank of Delaware. He enjoyed traveling and soccer. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Shankie and Bridget Beam; and two brothers, James and Edward Cain. He is survived his wife of 49 years, Anne; three children, Pauline Lewis (Mike) of Elkton, Md., Louise Cain-Maxwell (Robby) of Townsend, and Anthony Cain (Tracee) of Camden; his sister, Isabella Whitters of Scotland; his brother, Patrick Cain of Middletown; and six grandchildren. A viewing will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Polycarp's Parish, located at 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna. Burial will be privately held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Bayhealth Medical Center, the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Amedisys Home Health Care, Seasons Hospice, and his primary healthcare physician, Dr. Manu Sehgal and his staff.
