Fritz Gerstenlauer

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. - Fritz Gerstenlauer, 99, of Middletown, New Jersey, died March 11, 2014 at home in Brighton Gardens of Middletown. Fritz served with the 7th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop in the Western Pacific during WWII. After the war, he and his wife, Helen, made their home in Merrick, N.Y., and he worked for Piels Brothers Brewery until retiring in 1976. Fritz and Helen moved from Long Island to Hartly, Delaware in 1977 and remained there until 2005, when they relocated to Middletown, N.J. Fritz is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (nee Schoepp); two children and their spouses, Walter and his wife Linda of Mass., and Helen Martin and her husband Ken of N.J.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Peter, killed in Vietnam in 1969. A Memorial service will be held on April 26, 2014 in New Jersey.
