Francis A. Angel,
TSgt., Ret., 93
Our loving father, Francis A. Angel passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Delaware Veteran's Home in Milford, Delaware, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born to Stephania and John Angel on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928 in Collier, Pennsylvania, he was the sixth of nine children.
Mr. Angel enlisted in the Army 1946. While in Havre de Grace Maryland, he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Mayer in 1950. He was stationed at many different military bases around the country. Mr. Angel was awarded the distinguished Purple Heart Medal for bravery after being wounded in combat in Korea, with the 7th Calvary. He also joined the U.S.A.F. After leaving Travis AFB, California in 1964 he was stationed and later retired at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware after 20 years of service.
He was proud to be a U.S. Veteran and had many hats to prove it! What he was most was proud of was his children and their families. Although our father was a man of very few words, but they always made an impact, whether serious or humorous. Growing up he loved to play baseball. Although he didn't have the size, he made up for that with speed and grit! He was a tremendous baker. It was not unusual for him to start baking in October for the holidays, freeze his delicacies and be able to present a cookie tray with several different varieties to doctor's offices, friends and of course, our family. We always waited with great anticipation! Dad could make, fix or invent almost anything! He worked hard and would help anyone in need. Together, he and our mother instilled these traits in each of us, which we all live by today. He was always there for us, usually before we could ask. Dad loved going to see his grandchildren's sporting/school events, and also managed one showing of, "The Nutcracker Ballet". It was always special when Pap Angel was in attendance…Later in life he enjoyed going to Dover Downs, American Legion and loved to bet on Sunday football games. Dad was tough and never afraid to take a risk…but he usually came out a winner!
Mr. Angel was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Angel; parents, Stephania and John Angel; siblings, Anna Budner, John Angel, Stanley Angel, Andrew Angel, Isadore Angel, Albert Angel, Joseph Angel and Marcella Angel Standish.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, The Hon. Allan F. Angel (Peggy) of Dover and Barry Allan Angel (Tracey) of Stewartstown, Pa.; and loving daughter, Lori Angel-Sclesky (John) of Dover, with whom he lived for fourteen years; his grandchildren whom he adored, Christina Murphy (Bryan), Kelly Johnson (Sam), Jennifer Fuhlman (Nate), Katelyn Kalman (Nick), John Sclesky, Joseph Sclesky, Emily Angel and Greg Angel; great-grandchildren, Lilian Johnson, Zoey and Kamdyn Fuhlman, Daniel, Matthew and Thomas Kalman; two sister-in laws, Isa Mae Angel of Fairchance, Pa. and Veda Angel of Smithfield, Pa., and many nieces and nephews who affectionally called him, "Uncle Putz".
A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901. A celebration of life will be on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Trader Funeral Home. Family and friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. The remembrance and celebration will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Delaware Veteran's Cemetery in Bear, Delaware at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Delaware Veteran's Home, Wounded Warriors, Autism Delaware or a charity of your choice.
Our family wishes to thank the nursing staff and CNA's for the tremendous support and care offered to Dad and to our family during this time. It was very evident to us that our father meant a lot, to so many.
Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com
