Florence B. Apgar

SMYRNA - Florence B. Apgar passed away on Jan. 1, 2017. She was born on March 1, 1933 in Blackbird, the daughter of the late Edward and Amy Burris. Florence, for many years, was a large part of the family business, Apgar Turf Farm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold A. Apgar. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Edward F. Burris, Jr. She is survived by her son, John H. Apgar and his wife, Donna, of Smyrna; two daughters, Amy E. Apgar of Arlington, Va. and Irene F. Apgar and her husband, Brian Joyce, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her granddaughter, Meggan E. Apgar; two grandsons, John Taylor Apgar and Francisco A. Murphy Apgar; and her sister, Betty E. Bullock and her husband, William, of Blackbird. A viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna, where funeral services will begin at 12 pm. Burial will be privately held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Food Pantry, 20 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, DE 19977.
