Eva Eagleton Riggi

DOVER - Eva E. Riggi, age 83, of Dover, died in the arms of her daughter, Patrice M. McDowell, on Sept. 4, 2010, at the Silver Lake Center in Dover. Born in Warsaw, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alma Albert Eagleton and Bertha Burgett Eagleton. Mrs. Riggi had moved to Delaware in 1964 and had served as office manager with the Harrington Equipment Co. retiring in 1996. She had been an active participant in community affairs and while a resident in Batavia, N.Y., in the late 1950s she had served as State Chair Person for the March of Dimes interacting with Drs. Jonas Salk and Virginia Apgar. She had been a member of the School Study Commission for the City of Batavia and spear headed such activities as the Brownies and Cub Scout Programs. Mrs. Riggi was a Past Regent of the Capt. Jonathan Caldwell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and had served on the State Planning Committee of the D.A.R. She had served as an officer with the Professional Business Women's Group in Milford and was a volunteer with the Sussex Co. Hospice. Mrs. Riggi was most proud of the White House Tea that was hosted by President and Mrs. Clinton where she was recognized for her community efforts. Other activities included membership in the American Kennel Club and the Dover Modern Maturity Center. In her quieter moments she enjoyed breeding ShihTzus, gardening, playing the organ and piano and geneology. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James F. Riggi in 1974, along with three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three daughters, Terri A. Lang of Dover, Patrice M. McDowell and spouse Robert of Dover, Elizabeth Anne Goodman and spouse Roger of Milan, Tenn.; and her son, James A. Riggi and significant other Terri Proctor of Bear. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at the Magnolia United Methodist Church, Magnolia, where friends may call starting at noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to help defray the funeral costs. Donations are being accepted by: Delaware Federal Credit Union, 150 E.
