GREENSBORO, Md. - Ethel Darling Smith of Greensboro died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, in the Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 54.

Born in Dover, Del., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma Jones Darling.

She worked as a secretary for the Eastern Shore Mental Health Agency until her health forced her retirement.

For many years, Mrs. Smith worked in the food management industry.

She loved animals especially horses and enjoyed spending time on there farm with them.

She also enjoyed reading and traveling.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Fredrick L. Smith; two sons Matthew R. Quicke and Christopher G. Quicke, both of Easton; two step-sons, Clifford Levy Smith of Charleston, S.C. and James C. Quicke of Preston; two brothers, Ernest Darling of Barclay and William Darling of Centreville; a sister-in-law, Elsie Jane Long of Huntington W.Va.; and a brother-in-law, William Martin Smith of Gainesville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends and family may call after 6 p.m.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden DE 19934.
