MILFORD - Emelia Pintauro Kazimiroff, Esq., of Milford, formerly of Bronx, N.Y. passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 20, 2018 at home.
Emelia was born in the Bronx, N.Y. in her family home. She was the daughter of the late William and Lucia (Odierna) Pintauro. She was a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and Hunter College. Emelia was an attorney centenarian who managed legal affairs and provided legal council to friends and family. With her late husband, Dr. Theodore Kazimiroff, she founded the Bronx County Historical Society, writing its charter and purchased the Valentine-Issac Varian House Museum of Bronx History on Bainbridge Avenue, moved it across Bainbridge Avenue and managed all legal matters in the creation of the Museum to be preserved for Bronx posterity.
She sat on the Family Court bench as one of the first women of Italian American descent. She also taught law at the Bronx Community College as well as taught grammar school for the New York City Board of Education before retiring in 1980. She did this all quietly without formal recognition while she raised two children, as the woman behind Dr. Kazimiroff, and his efforts for Bronx historical and environmental preservation. She was a longtime resident of the Bronx, residing in the home that she and her husband restored on Bainbridge Ave. for most of her adult life, before moving to Milford, in 1991. She accomplished all of this with her love of family, home and community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Theodore Kazimiroff in 1980; and two brothers, Dr. Frank Pintauro and Ludwig Pintauro.
She is survived by her son, Theodore L. Kazimiroff; her daughter, Julie Kazimiroff; and her granddaughter, Dr. Emily Perdoncin, Cardiologist.
Prayers were recited at the Chapel at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 followed by entombment.
