DENTON, Md. - Elsie Mae (Henry) Wise passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton where she had been under the excellent care of the nurses and staff since July of 2008. Born on Oct. 25, 1922, to the late Cleveland and Maude (Towers) Henry, Elsie was a graduate of Caroline High School Class of 1942. She married George F. Wise Jr. on March 13, 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They spent time in Texas during his tour of duty. After his discharge they made their home in Denton, where she was a housewife and mother to their two sons. She helped her husband as a poultry grower for various companies, she also raised and groomed poodles and enjoyed doing crafts. Elsie was a life member of both the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. and its Ladies Auxiliary where she served many years on the ambulance squad and worked many Bingo Nites with her husband, receiving a citation in 2006 from The Maryland General Assembly for 25 years of service to her community. She was also a life member of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7937. During their many winters in Florida, she became an avid bingo player, and that enjoyment continued here at home after they no longer journeyed to Florida. She was also a faithful NASCAR fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr., and watched every Orioles game. Besides her husband of 65 years, she is survived by one son, Wayne and his wife Eileen of Seaford, Del., along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Glenn; and five siblings, Nelson Henry of Hobbs, twin brothers, Gorman and Ormand (Nick) Henry, Edward Henry, all of Denton, and a sister, Julietta Sewell of Queen Anne. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, where friends may call one hour prior to services at Moore Funeral Home, Second Street, Denton. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Denton Volunteer Fire Co.'s Ambulance Squad, 400 S. 5th Ave., Denton, MD 21629; or Caroline County Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, Md 21629.
