She was born March 31, 1934, in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Laura V. (Gilpin) Haymire and Henry D. Haymire. Granny, as most people knew her, enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, watching the birds in the yard, the Baltimore Orioles and harness racing. Her favorite horse was "Rainbow Blue." Prior to her death she thoroughly enjoyed her work as a security officer for Harrington Racetrack, a job she loved for over 7 years. Granny will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by sons, William J. Gartrell IV and wife Jackie of Florida, James Gartrell and wife Janice of Dover, Robert Schaub and wife Nora of Delmar, and Martin Schaub III and wife Angel of New York; daughters, Donna Gartrell Snyder of Laurel, Laura Moore and her companion Jethro York of Laurel, and Naomi Steele and husband Brett of Hartly; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three expected to be born very soon, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a dear friend, who she considered a son, Leroy Downin of Laurel; and her special "children", her dog Gretchen, cat Sabreena, and bird Buddy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin L. "Sonny" Schaub Jr.; and a great grandson, Paul "Peanut" North IV. A graveside memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Bloomery Cemetery in Federalsburg. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions to be sent to Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, DE 19940 to help with funeral expenses.
