Elizabeth M. 'Helene' Owens, 88
LAUREL - Elizabeth M. "Helene" Owens of Laurel passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 88.
Born and raised in Sharptown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Helene E. Mitchell.
Mrs. Owens was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, Laurel, and a charter member of the Laurel Lioness Club.
She so loved her family and was quite the family historian.
Mrs. Owens had once worked for the Chipman's Shoe Store and the Calio Shoe Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Owens.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her son, Dr. Gary W. Owens and his wife Lorrie of Glen Mills, Pa.; her daughter, Judy Sheridan and her husband Paul of Laurel; grandchildren, Ann Hill and her husband Laurel Asst. Fire Chief Jeff Hill of Laurel, Laurel Fire Chief Mark Sheridan and his wife Penny of Laurel, Scott Sheridan and his wife Deb of Exton, Pa., Scott Owens and his wife Joanna, Aaron Owens and his wife Stefanie, Tyler Owens, and Thomas Degnan and Danielle Degnan; great-grandchildren, Ashley Hill, Payton Owens, Heather Sheridan, Scott Sheridan and Emilee Sheridan.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Christ United Methodist Church, South Central Avenue, Laurel, where friends may call one hour prior.
The Rev. Fred Ducan will officiate.
Interment will follow in Sharptown (Md.) Fireman's Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in her honor to Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956; or Laurel Volunteer Fire Co., 205 W. 10th St., Laurel, DE 19956.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel.
