CAMDEN, Del. - Eleanor "Ellie" Davis Sigmon gained her heavenly wings Wednesday, November 3, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born June 11, 1937, in Kannapolis, N.C. to the late Fonzo Milton Davis and Lacy Mae Adams. Ellie was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church for over 45 years.
Ellie supported her husband's aviation career which included many moves throughout the country. Most importantly, she was a homemaker who loved and cared for her family. She played an active role in raising her grand and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly and will miss her. She was happiest when surrounded by their smiling faces.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and jigsaw puzzles. Her family could always count on her peanut butter blossom cookies and the building of gingerbread houses at Christmas.
Ellie volunteered at McIlvaine Elementary School in Magnolia for years as a classroom aide, teaching and helping students. In 2003, she received The Jefferson Award for Public Service Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Community Service. In 2004-2005, she received the "Spirit of Caesar Rodney" Award by the Board of Education for outstanding volunteer service. She also spent many years as a Bank of Delaware Proof Operator.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Robinson; and brother, Claude Davis.
Ellie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Harvey E. Sigmon of Camden; son, Robert E. Sigmon of Dover; daughter, Angela S. Martin (Douglas) of Lancaster, Pa.; sisters, Marion Davis of Orlando, Fla., Gladys Alexander of Thomasville, N.C.; grandchildren, Stephen C. Sigmon (Sarah) of Cheswold, Jayden C. Sigmon of Newark; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Karsten, and Rose.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover, Del. Friends may call one hour prior.
At the request of the family, interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Friends of Kent County Public Library, 497 South Red Haven Lane, Dover, DE 19901. Children's books will be purchased in Ellie's memory.
