Edward W. Clevenger, 80
DOVER -- Edward W. Clevenger of Dover died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Westminster Village Healthcare, Dover. He was 80. Mr. Clevenger was born April 15, 1928, in Swarthmore, Pa., to the late Thomas W. Clevenger and Blanche G. Kent Clevenger. Mr. Clevenger was a veteran of World War II serving four years in the U.S.s Navy during which he served on the U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-3) and participated in the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Island in 1946. After the service he went to work in the Pennsylvania Railroad Post Office, and he helped to build helicopters for the Vertol Aircraft in Pennsylvania. He retired after 21 years as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic at Dover Air Force Base following which he was a service officer at Marty's Travel Trailers. Mr. Clevenger owned and operated the "Junk A*Tique" shop in Spence's Bazaar. Mr. Clevenger, often referred to as "Mr. Ed," was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, Kent Coin Club, the NARFE Association, and Wesley United Methodist Church. He was an active Dover historian who collected old post cards of the city and the state of Delaware. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen "Peg" Clevenger of Dover; a son, Raymond Clevenger and his wife Rina of Dallas; a daughter, Peggy L. Reisinger and her husband Timothy of North Bowers Beach; five grandchildren, Raychel, Rebecca and Ryan, all of Texas, and Laura and Nathan, both of North Bowers Beach; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Del. 10), Dover.
