Edward S. Slaughter

Newark - Edward S. Slaughter Jr. went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018. He passed away at Christiana Hospital, at the age of 98. Mr. Slaughter was born in Clayton to the late Edward S. Sr. and Nellie Slaughter Lane.
Mr. Slaughter served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, and served in the 362nd Infantry during WWII, where he received a Purple Heart for being wounded on the battlefield in Italy.
Mr. Slaughter worked for General Motors Assembly Plant on Boxwood Road as a paint mixer for over 33 years. Before working for GM, he worked for Wilson Cabinet Co. in Smyrna. Before he left for the Army, he worked for a short time at the Seaford Nylon Plant. In his free time, Mr. Slaughter enjoyed gardening, and his bountiful produce fed his family as well as friends and neighbors. In his younger years, he enjoyed painting pictures.
Mr. Slaughter was a member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Slaughter; a son, Dale Slaughter; and a son-in-law, Paul Davis.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Slaughter; daughter-in-law, Vada J. Slaughter; and a grandson, Bradley D. Slaughter.
Funeral Services will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. A visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
