DOVER, Del. - Dr. Marie Marple Burgoyne passed away peacefully in her sleep, on April 30, 2021.
Marie was born August 29, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Marie was a lifelong educator having received her degrees at University of Southern California, B.S. in Ed. 1949, M.S. in Ed. 1957, and Doctorate in 1968. She taught school in Europe where she met her future husband, Bruce Burgoyne. They were married in Nuremburg, Germany in 1969. Her husband was an esteemed translator of over 40 documents relating to the American Revolutionary War, focusing on German state mercenaries. During their marriage, his research took the couple to Europe 26 times.
Bruce Burgoyne her husband of 41 years predeceased her in 2011.
Dr. Marie Marple Burgoyne is survived by three stepsons, Walter B. Burgoyne of New Orleans, La., B. Aaron Burgoyne of Charlottesville, Va., and Jurgen A. Burgoyne of Dover; her granddaughter, Brooke L. Burgoyne, of Texas; her nephew, Michael H. Burgoyne; niece, Tina Brennan of Maryland; and her niece, Diane Laqua, of Montana.
Marie was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road Bear, Delaware 19701.
