WILMINGTON - Doris E. Harris of Wilmington passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in Wilmington. She was 69.
Mrs. Harris was the first African-American to become an employee of the office of the Attorney General of Delaware. Later she became the first African-American woman Justice of the Peace in Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Brown and Thomas M. Ross.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 49 years, William V. Harris; three sons, Everett "Chip" Harris, Vidtor Harris and his fiancee, Jeannie and Patrick Harris and his wife, Leigh; three sisters, Dale Mitchell Wideman and her husband, Brian, Joyce M. Miles and Beulah Grey; nine grandchildren, Marisa, Everett, Vichelle, Ive, Dawann, Troy, Isha, LaToya and Valerie; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. today in Bethel AME Church, 602 Walnut St., Wilmington, where friends may call from 8 to 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
