GEORGETOWN - On Aug. 7, 2013, Donald Wayne "Donnie" Slater, a loving, caring, and gentle human being, was taken home to be with the Lord after a brief hospital stay. Donald worked at the Delaware State Highway for 25 years in the carpentry department and also had his own lawn care business for over 25 years. He was a service department runner for IG Burton where he got to drive his dream car, the BMW. Donald loved going fishing and crabbing with his longtime friend, Dizzy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Blanche (Fisher) Slater; and mother-in-law, Margaret "Poke" Vickers. Donald leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Donna Slater; two children, Dana Taylor and husband Rob, and Diana Brode and husband Jason, of Harrington; three grandchildren, Riley and Rachel Taylor and Addison Brode; a brother, Fred Slater; two sisters, Debbie Heffentrager and Carol Miller and families; three sister-in-laws, Brenda Reynolds, Diane Stewart, Billie Vickers and families. A visitation will be held Tues., Aug. 13, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton. Burial will be private.
