HARRINGTON - Donald E. Darling Sr. of Harrington was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 23, 2007, following a long battle with heart disease. He was 66.

He departed this life peacefully, with his wife and two of his daughters by his side. Through it all, Mr. Darling always had a smile and kind words for everyone.

Mr. Darling was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a life member of the Felton Fire Co., joining when he was 16 years old.

He retired from Acme Markets in 1988 after 31 years of service. He also worked for Polytech High School for 10 years until going out on disability.

Mr. Darling loved to go deer hunting with his sons and was a dedicated Phillies fan. He truly enjoyed the game of baseball and attended Little League games when he could to watch his grandson Xavier play.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Ora (Remus) Darling; a brother, Bernard Darling; and two younger sisters, Doris and Hazel Darling.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Elsie Mae (Tribbitt) Darling, Mr. Darling is survived by four sons, Donald E. Darling Jr. and his wife Lori of Somerset, Wis., Keith Darling and his wife Talley of Viola, Shayne Darling and his wife Andrea of Felton, and Eric Darling and his fiancee Rena Bratcher of Frederica; three daughters, Laurie Ann Darling and her fiance Eric Christ of Newark, Nikki Darling of Harrington and her fiance Mike Divero, and Tracey Darling and her dear friend James Clark of Felton; eight grandchildren, Karra, Shayne and Alexa Darling of Felton, Tyler and Kaden Darling of Viola, Amani (Darling) Bratcher of Harrington and Cantrell and Xavier Perry of Harrington; a brother, Etzel Darling of Woodside; four sisters, Thelma Massey of Dover, Ruth Semans and her husband Berlin "Buck" of Dover, Frances Moore and her husband Herbert of Viola, and Myrtle Wilkins and husband Norman of Milford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Darling"s request, a beautiful fireman"s funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Felton Fire House, 9 E. Main St., where friends may call Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Arrangements were handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home.
