CHESTERTOWN, Md. - David Oakley Vanderpoel Barroll died peacefully at Chester River Manor in Chestertown on Jan. 1, 2008.
A native of Chestertown, he was the son of the late Morris Keene and Margaret Newcomer Barroll and the brother of the late Waldo N. Barroll.
Mr. Barroll graduated from St. Andrew's School, Middletown and attended Washington College.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55, where he was stationed in France.
Mr. Barroll was in the automobile and farm equipment business prior to becoming a real estate broker.
In 1972 he became president/owner of Cooper-Barroll Realty, a company with offices in Chestertown, Centreville, Galena and Kennedyville.
During Mr. Barroll's tenure in real estate, he was active in the Kent County Board of Realtors, the Chestertown Elks Lodge 2472 and the Kent County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Barroll served as a member of the board of directors of the Chestertown Bank of Maryland.
He also served on the vestry of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a board member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club and a member of Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36, Chestertown.
Mr. Barroll was a member of the Maryland Club, Society of War of 1812 and a subscriber to the Bachelor's Cotillon.
His hobbies included sailing, hunting, golfing and playing bridge.
His wife, Ann Athey Barroll, predeceased him.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret B. Cutter of Fairfield, Conn.; and a brother, Richard S.W. Barroll of Lutherville.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chestertown.
Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Chester River Manor, 200 Morgnec Road Chestertown, MD 21620; or Emmanuel Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 875, Chestertown, MD 21620.
