David O. 'Skins' Mench

ROCK HALL, Md. - David O. "Skins" Mench, of Rock Hall, died Feb. 12, 2009, in his home. He was 60. David was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Rock Hall, son of the late Ralph and Irene Kendall Mench. He was a 1966 graduate of Rock Hall High School and from 1968-1970 on active duty with the U.S. Army. Skins has been on the water since he was a teen, currently captaining his boat "Miss Susan." He was a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion post 228 and an avid pool shooter, belonging to several leagues. He loved movies and playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David G. "Boo Boo" Mench; and a brother, Allen "Big Al" Mench. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Richards Mench; a daughter, Trisha Quillen and her husband Mitch of Millington; two stepchildren, Heather Stewart Arbini and her husband Joe of Fairlee and Stephen 'Country' Tyer of Rock Hall; a sister, Janet Toulson of Kent Island; a brother, Ralph "Rabbit" Mench of Rock Hall; and five grandchildren, Delaney and Mitchell Quillen, Joshuah Tyer, Brooklyn Usilton, and Abby Ski Mench. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, in Wesley Chapel, Rock Hall, where friends may call 2 hours prior. Rev. Linda Mariner will officiate. Interment in Wesley Cemetery with pallbearers Mitch Quillen, Joseph Arbini, Chris Nordoff, Bucky Farroll, Martin Legg and Herbie Cain. Donations may be made to Rock Hall Fire Co., P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD, 21661. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
