SMYRNA - David L. Hewes (Dave) passed away at home on Dec. 11, 2018.
"Let Me Tell You a Story"
Today David got a job offer from God to do some special bush hogging and rototilling work and other general contracting jobs in Heaven and it comes with very special benefits forever. So off he went.
R.I.P.
He was born Feb. 5, 1951, in Dover to the late James L. Hewes and the late Mary Domyan Hewes.
He was a graduate of JBM/Smyrna High School, and later served in the U.S. Army. Dave was employed through the years at White Bros., Middletown; Tyler Refrigeration, Smyrna; and for many years as a self-employed general contractor.
He loved to tell family stories and enjoyed rock and roll music, motorcycles, and good times. He also enjoyed going fishing, growing crops, and attending tractor shows, auctions, auto shows and wrestling. He could name the names of 99% of the actors or actresses of any movie or show you might watch with him. Dave also had a passion for history.
"No matter what you were doing, even if you were doing it the right way…if it wasn't Dave's way you were doing it wrong"!
He is survived by a brother, Jimmy A. Hewes and wife Toni AKA "The Newshound", of Smyrna; a nephew, Jimmy D. Hewes, of Smyrna; a great-niece, Faith Elizabeth Hewes, of Smyrna; a long-time very special friend, Judy Steiner; Ed Schwatka, his friend of 45 years which he had dinner with every Thursday night; and lots of neighborhood friends and cousins. He is also survived by his furry pets, Samson, Squeak, Sheba, Pagan, and Blackie.
A visitation will be held 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 18, 2018 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 p.m. Tuesday December 18, 2018 at St. Polycarp Church, 55 Ranson Lane, Smyrna. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
Casual dress, David won't know you in a suit.
