Daniel Rodman (Dan) Steer, 82
MILLSBORO, Del. - Daniel Rodman (Dan) Steer passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Camden, N.J. on July 29, 1938, he was a son of the late Alvin and Helen (Turner) Steer. After high school, Dan went on to join the United States Navy in 1961, beginning as an E-1 Private. By the end of his service in 1966, Dan had ranked up to Petty Officer 3rd Class. Throughout his time in service, he had served aboard the Supercarrier Class U.S.S. Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was later stationed on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier. If there was one thing that Dan was proud of himself for, it was his time serving his country.
After serving in the United States Navy, Dan would work as an ambulance driver, and later on as a Dart Bus Driver. He moved from Camden, N.J. to Millsboro, Del. in 1985. Dan also became a member of the American Legion, Post 28, which is based in Oak Orchard, Del. One of his favorite pastimes was shooting pool, as well as darts, which he was able to do with his buddies at the Legion.
Dan was a Nutter Butter Wafer advocate, and if he wasn't snacking on those, you might find him eating one of his favorite combinations – a peanut butter and butter sandwich. Aside from his love for peanut butter, Dan thoroughly enjoyed metal detecting, reading, and collecting old coins.
One of the greatest joys in Dan's life was spending time with his family. Married on June 11, 1966, Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Bonser) Steer; daughter, Kimberly Steer; son, Jeffrey Steer; granddaughters, Cheyenne Dally and Rylee Hart; and many other friends and family members who loved him dearly.
Arrangements are in the care of Eastern Shore Cremation and Funeral Service, 504 Franklin Avenue, Berlin, Maryland 21811. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.easternshorecremation.com
