CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Crawford Reid Galt of Chestertown, Md., died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at his home. He was 78.
Crawford R. Galt was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan. 25, 1929, the son of the late Crawford Reid Galt Sr. and Marion "Barney" Galt.
Mr. Galt was a 1947 graduate of Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, N.J. He then attended Colorado A&M in Ft. Collins, Colo.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps during the Korean War.
In 1960 Mr. Galt moved to High Hopes Farm in Kent County where he raised dairy cows and grain farmed.
He was a member of Fairlee Salem United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts of America, the National Farmers Organization, the Kent County Farm Bureau, he was the director for the DFA as well as director for FSA offices, member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 2474, Kent County 4-H, Chestertown Ruritans club, a director of the Kent Museum and a member of the American Legion Sgt. Preston Ashley Post 228.
He enjoyed canning and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Elaine Galt; and his first wife, Elaine Blair Galt.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Galt of Chestertown, Md.; four sons, C. Blair Galt and wife, Carolyn, Allan Douglas Galt and wife, Ruth Anne, William Jeffrey Galt and wife, Vicky, and John Reid Galt, all of Chestertown, Md.; five grandchildren, Christopher Galt, Jennifer Galt, Cynthia Galt, Galerie Rousseau, and Nyland Galt; five stepchildren, Howard L. Donovan IV and wife, Maude of Smyrna, Steven E. Donovan and wife, Valerie of Chestertown, Md., Betty J. Treadwell and husband, Michael of Gates, N.C., Deanna K. Lanphear and husband, Greggory of Germantown, Md., Michael P. Donovan of Chestertown, Md.; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
