Clara Ruby Allen

DOVER - Clara Ruby Allen of Dover, passed away June 30, 2015 in Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 85. She lived in Dover for the last eight years, she died after a brief fight with cancer. Ruby, as everyone called her, was born November 24, 1929 in Triangle, Virginia to the late Robert Boyd and Flossie Mountjoy. She worked as a bookkeeper for Quaker Custom Homes, where she was known as the "Hoot". Ruby had also worked at Navy Marine Corp Relief, volunteered at then Potomac Hospital, was a substitute teacher at many schools in Prince William County, started the PTA of Potomac View Elementary in Woodbridge, Virginia, and was a member of Triangle Baptist Church. Ruby had a lot of ties to Prince William County and had several generations of family from there. Ruby touched the lives of all who knew her and she was a fighter and tough women. The things she did in life were truly remarkable and she will be missed by many. She loved football season and was an avid Washington Redskin's fan! Ruby also loved anything that was United States Marine Corp. She loved cardinals, family and friends. Ruby will be missed but never forgotten. Her sense of humor was unique and she was always one for a joke. Ruby lived life her way. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee Allen; daughter, Karen Elaine Allen. She is survived by her son, Ronnie Allen and his wife Terri of Dover; daughter, Sharon Grantz and her husband Richard of Spotsylvania, Va.; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or Navy Marine Corp, 875 N. Randolph Street, Suite #225, Arlington, VA. 22203. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
