DOVER - Charles M. Burris, Jr., aka, "Sonny" and "Shorty," passed away at home on Monday, May 21, 2018.
Charles was born on June 13, 1939 in Smyrna.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy E. Burris; and his son, Michael.
He is survived by his daughters, Christine Vennard (husband Jim) and Bobbie Jo Watts; grandchildren, Gregory Watts, Michael Mogavero (fiancée Laura, daughter Lucy), Jimmy Vennard (wife Kathryn, son Sampson), Daniel Vennard (wife Danielle, son Graeme, daughter Zoey), and Andrea DeCoteau (husband Mike and family); and extended family.
Charles enjoyed boating, fishing, clamming and crabbing at Leisure Point. Most recently, he enjoyed his daily walks to Cheswold. Store clerks fondly referred to him as "7-11-21" because of his frequent purchase of those scratch-off lottery tickets. His family appreciates the kindness shown to him by those he encountered during his daily walks.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for providing respect and dignity for end of life care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice, 20165 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com
