ELLENDALE - Charles H. Neibert, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Atlantic Shores in Millsboro.
Charles was born in Milton, Del. son of the late Charles H. Sr., and Grace (Shockley) Neibert. Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Ellendale where he was a lifetime resident.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving overseas during WWII from 1943-1946. After his honorable discharge as Seaman First Class, he worked as a fireman with Fort Miles in Lewes and then the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He retired in 1984 from the reserves where he had worked as a troubleshooter in the vehicle maintenance department.
Mr. Neibert was a charter member of the Milton VFW Post 6984 and, his memberships also included, Ellendale VFW Post 2931, American Legion Post 28 and the NRA; as well as the oldest living member of Ellendale Fire Department. Charles loved being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a grandson, Curtis Towers; and a brother, Alvin Neibert.
He is survived by two children, Verona Towers and Robert Neibert; two sisters, Gloria Clark (Preston), and Evelyn Timmons; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE 19968. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at Noon. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Ellendale Cemetery.
Due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 we will ask that masks be worn for the safety of those in attendance.
